Not as easy as it looks

As a wellness counselor I often see my clients struggling with weight or health issues. I try to be as sympathetic as possible. When you watch these TV reality weight loss shows you see the highlights of the good and the bad with weight loss and ultimately all the people that succeed. Rarely do you see those that don’t or most people that may succeed initially but slip back into their old habits. That is not because they are weak or have no will power or they don’t care its because its NOT AS EASY AS IT LOOKS. Not everyone is used to extreme self control, small portions, or just feeling emotional discomfort to reach their goals. Life is stressful. Food is comfort. For those that don’t indulge in drugs or alcohol food is a safe outlet. I know many nutritionists that just focus on food. I have discussions with them and they say Why can’t they just follow the plan. My answer to them is…
I know first hand because I am on the strictest plan of my life. The weather is cold and I feel like hibernating. I don’t always want a shake which isn’t warming or a raw salad. Its winter my body is crying out for comfort food. I watch my family eat whatever they want. To add insult to injury my son has 5% body fat and eats whatever and how much he wants.
I work with this day to day just as my clients do. I have stayed strong this time because it is health related. I’m not obese. If it was just for weight loss or to look good for that reunion or wedding it may be important one day but the next not so much. I know if I want to stay healthy that everything I put into me is either going to support me or take me away from feeling good. I have stayed strong and it feels really good. I have been exercising everyday and sweating alot. That is important to get toxins out. I know I won’t have to do this forever but for now I need to do it for my soul. I want to be in control of my life, my stress levels and ultimately know that I can do this. So yes its not as easy as it looks but yes well worth it.
